He retired 36 years ago and later worked for several years for Federal Wildlife Management. ![]() ![]() He was a member of the Hendrick Hudson Fish and Game Club for many years and enjoyed spending time there.īill worked for the NY Telephone Company for 35 years and spent many a day talking about his love for that job well into his later years. His love for the outdoors while hunting created many stories that he loved to tell to anyone who would listen. William spent most of his life outdoors hunting and fishing and spending time at his camp in the Adirondacks. William’s first love was the love of the outdoors and hunting. He was a dedicated husband and father to his family. He was a lover of the Lord and the Trinity Lutheran Church in West Sand Lake and Gilead Lutheran Church in Center Brunswick. Upon graduation Bill joined the US Navy and served aboard the destroyer escort USS Mc Caffery. William was a graduate of Averill Park High School where he excelled in basketball and baseball. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernie son, Stan granddaughter, Manijha Mostofi son-in-law, Lowell Westberg and brothers, Robert Smiley and David Smiley. She entered into her eternal life on April 24, 2017, at the Roseau Manor where she had lived the past three years.ĭarlene's pride and joy throughout her entire life was her loving marriage, her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. In her last years, she was happy in each moment, despite her memory loss. She loved jigsaw puzzles, golf cart adventures, chocolate ice cream, and bingo during her years at Roseau Manor. Her quilting at Our Saviors church was a wonderful time of friendship and fellowship. She enjoyed quilting, being sure that every grandchild got a very special denim quilt when they graduated. This love also evolved into her help in starting the Sr. After raising their six children, they also opened their home to foster children.Įrnie and Darlene enjoyed camping in their motor home, most often at a lake so she could enjoy her love of swimming. She then began her many years as a lunchroom lady at the Warren Elementary School serving up vegetables and laughing with her coworkers. During those busy years, she also worked as an in-home babysitter and home health care aide. When Ernie began his bowling business career, she was right by his side from Hawley, to Grand Forks, to Warren where they settled in 1970. While raising their six children, she worked side-by-side with Ernie at their dairy farm. When she transferred to Fargo, ND she met Ernie Beck who was planning to move to Alaska but married Darlene instead on July 2, 1948.
